Welcome to Betko
BETKO FRESH PRODUCE offers the highest quality fruit
Located in the scenic Vyeboom Valley near Villiersdorp in the Western Cape, some 100km from Cape Town, Betko Fresh Produce has become one of the leading fruit packers and shippers from South Africa.
Building on the entrepreneurial spirit of Japie Groenewald, Betko now offers its customers around the world the finest apples and pears, grown in harmony with nature.
Packed, distributed, and marketed by a motivated team of people who understand the fresh produce industry.
Three leading farms – Oubos, Soetmelksvlei and Sunnyside - located along the Sonderend Rivier (“River without End”) in the Western Cape form the core of Betko’s apple and pear production.
Betko supplies markets worldwide with a wide range of pome fruit. Pears include the ever-popular varieties Packham’s Triumph, William’s Bon Chretien, Abate Fetel and Forelle. Golden Delicious, Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji, Pink Lady and Top Red are some of the apple varieties.
Betko’s marketing division has a global footprint in the traditional markets of the United Kingdom and Western Europe, as well as emerging African and Asian markets. We supply some of the world’s most well-known supermarkets and have strong internally generated brands.
The Japie Groenewald Trust is the legacy of Japie Groenewald, founder of packer-exporter Betko Fresh Produce, who showed true entrepreneurial spirit in building what is today one of the leading grower-exporter organisations in South Africa.
Japie Groenewald was one of the South African fruit trade’s most colourful figures. He was a leading entrepreneur who helped to transform the country’s fresh produce business from its highly regulated form during the single-channel era, to deregulation, that has seen exports from the country double in little more than 15 years.
